ATI GETS BACK ON TRACK July 30, 2002 - Baltimore, MD ATI
Performance Racing returned to the state of Wisconsin for the third time
in the 2002 ASA Racing Series. This time it was Madison International Speedway
for the BFGoodrich 300 on Sunday July 28, 2002, which also marked the ASA's
third consecutive season competing at the paper clip shaped 1/2 mile. The 34-car field was set and ready to go 300 laps in Sunday's sweltering 90° plus heat. Beattie took the green flag and had to maneuver his way through heavy traffic for most of the race eventually making his way up to 16th position. With about 30 laps to go Joey Miller spun in turn two forcing JC to dive to the inside and escape through the grass where he unfortunately flattened a BFGoodrich sign. Fortunately, the BFGoodrich sign took the worst of the incident and the #09 didn't suffer any damage. Beattie Jr. went on to grab two more spots in the closing laps and finished a hard fought 14th place. "We battled the traffic and heat the entire day," commented JC. "Overall the car ran good and I was real happy to finish in the top 15. Our main concern is to improve each week and gain as many points as possible." Wisconsin native Steve Carlson came from the rear of the 34-car field to win the BFGoodrich 300 over Gary St. Amant with David Stremme, Kevin Cywinski and Butch Miller rounding out the top five. Also, St. Amant has taken over the championship points lead from Joey Clanton by a slim 28 points. Log onto www.51sportsracing.com starting July 31, 2002 to vote for JC Beattie Jr. as the most popular ASA driver. The 2002 ASA Racing Series moves on to Toledo Speedway in Toledo, OH
for the Metro Toledo - Northwest Ohio Ford Dealers 300 on August 11, 2002.
The race will be televised live on TNN The National Network at 2:00PM
