ATI #09 ROLLS THROUGH MEMPHIS August 27, 2002 - Baltimore, MD
The ASA made its annual trip to "Graceland" for the Jani-King 200 presented by Flash Market on Sunday, August 25, 2002. At 3/4 miles, Memphis Motorsports Park is the longest track and one of the finest facilities that the short track specialists visit in 2002. ATI Performance Racing has been back in the groove as of late with two consecutive top-fifteen finishes at Madison International Speedway and Toledo Speedway. "We have to keep the ball rolling right on through Memphis," stated JC. " The team is working really well together right now and the momentum is building each week." A huge field of competitors was on hand for the Jani-King 200 as 37 cars took the green flag. As always JC set his sights on the front looking to make it three consecutive weeks in the top fifteen. The ATI #09 ran well in traffic with Beattie precisely carving his way through the pack. Around lap 104, JC came in for his first and only pit stop of the day. It was a routine stop where the crew changed both right side tires and made a few air pressure adjustments. Beattie Jr. flirted with the top fifteen for the remainder of the race and advanced 10 positions to finish 17th. Joey Clanton took the point from Kevin Cywinski as they took the white flag and held the lead for the final lap to grab his ninth victory of the season. A multi-car pile up occurred at the start/finish line as the leaders were coming through turn three on the final circuit. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the accident and the leaders made it through safely. Also, remember to log-on to www.51sportsracing.com to vote for JC Beattie Jr. as the most popular ASA driver. Voting will continue until the end of the 2002 ASA season on October 6, 2002 at midnight. The ASA will be back in action on September 2, 2002 at Minnesota St. Fair Speedway in St. Paul, Minnesota for the annual Labor Day Miller Lite 300. The race will be telecast live on TNN The National Network starting at 2:00PM EST. |
