THE RACE FOR THE CURE
September 24, 2002 - Baltimore, MD
A full schedule of ASA short track racing and special events made for
a wonderful two days for the fans and race teams at ASA's first ever visit
to Illiana Motor Speedway for the CITGO MDA 300 presented by Texor Petroleum
Company. Aside from the awesome racing for the 2002 points championship
there was remote control racing, silent and live auctions, ride-n-drive
racing experiences and a Texas Roadhouse Barbecue to benefit the Muscular
Dystrophy Association.
The ATI Performance Racing Team participated in all of the special events
and enjoyed a great weekend. As for the racing, the ATI #09 was slowed
most of the weekend by mechanical problems. JC gave it his all on Sunday
until the #09 eventually succumbed to mechanical woes and could go no
further. This put the #09 in 27th position for the day. For the 2002 points
championship ATI Performance Racing fell to 20th position, but still has
the opportunity to gain a couple of spots in the remaining two races.
"WalTom Racing put on a wonderful event for a great cause,"
said Beattie. "Our car didn't run like we planned, but overall it
was a positive weekend and a real privilege to participate in Race for
a Cure."
