J.C.
QUALIFIES 8TH IN ASA'S FLORIDA 200
March 25,
2001 - Lakeland, FL
The #09 of
J.C. Beattie qualified 8th for the ASA Florida 200 at the USA International
Speedway in Lakeland, Florida with a time of 21.341 seconds. Whether it
was the balmy Florida weather, the prior test session, or the new crew
members, Beattie flew around the ¾ mile oval at top speeds in excess of
145mph. The event found 51 racers vying for a place on race day.
"The ATI crew was determined to find a good set up and it finally all
came together in qualifying," the 22 year old told his fans on a nationally
televised interview Saturday night. "We are ecstatic to be here." The
competition for the race was fierce as the top 10 qualifiers ran within
less than a second of one another.
J.C., in only his second season in the ASA, held his place in the top
10 throughout the race and was looking forward to a good finish. However,
misfortune struck on Lap 179 when J.C. and another competitor were taken
out by the lapped car of Ken Alexander, causing the fourth caution of
the evening. As a result, the ATI Chevy Monte Carlo retired from the event
with a burnt clutch. Mike Garvey edged out Butch Miller (who led his 10,000th
career lap), and went on to claim his 13th career win.
ATI Performance
Racing will return to action for the Textilease Medique 300 of the ASA
ACDelco 2001 season at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia
on Saturday, April 7th. The event will be televised live on TNN Sports
at 9:00 p.m. (Eastern). For more info on J.C. and the ASA go to www.asaracing.com.
