NO PARTY IN SOUTH BOSTON
April 7, 2001 - South Boston, VA

The ATI Performance Racing Team arrived in South Boston, Virginia with the odds stacked against them. A test session crash at the tri-oval in Concord, North Carolina, left them with just one complete car to take to the Textilease Medique 300. Fortunately, J.C. was left uninjured, however the same could not be said of the car. The incident ripped the frame of the #09 and took a piece of the wall with it.

Less than a week after the test session, the ATI crew was ready to face another tough weekend of ASA action. A margin of only .9 seconds separated the field of 37 cars in Saturday's qualifying session, with J.C. just .5 seconds off the pole. Later that night, J.C. lined up 12th in the 100 lap qualifier, but finished just one spot away from making the race.

Georgia's Joey Clanton had the fastest car all weekend; taking pole position and leading all 300 laps of the main event. Clanton is the first driver since 1996 to lead a race from wire-to-wire, when Gary St. Amant led all 300 laps at Columbus Motor Speedway.

The next race takes the ASA west to Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday, April 28th. J.C. passed 16 cars in his last Iowa race, to finish 18th. The event will be televised live on TNN Sports at 2:00 p.m. (Eastern). For more info on J.C. and the ASA go to www.asaracing.com.
