ATI RACING RIDES THROUGH CONCORD
May 23, 2001 - Concord, NC

Round 7 of the AC Delco ASA Challenge Series was held at the Concord Motorsports Park 0.5 mile tri-oval, in North Carolina. JC told TNN Sports that this was like a "home race" for him since he goes to school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, just a few miles away.

JC was one of 11 ASA drivers chosen to participate in the BFGoodrich Tires autograph session at Concord Mills Mall on Friday, May 18th. Fans had the opportunity to sit and talk with our man, JC, and get a few autographs. The BFGoodrich Tires show car was also on display and everyone had a great time seeing a real race car up close.

The next day JC put the car in the show with a qualifying time of 16.262 seconds. The crew finally managed to beat all the gremlins out of the car, after a 3-race stint of race-ending chassis problems.

On raceday, JC and the #09 ATI Performance Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo was race ready and anxious to battle the ASA pack at in the BFGoodrich Tires 300. A prior test session allowed Beattie and his crew to work out the bugs and get a little seat time at Concord and produce a fast set-up.

The race started with what was to be the buzzword of the afternoon - caution! 11 cars were caught up in a crash on the first lap, including JC's old racing buddy, Ken Alexander! The race was restarted while crashed cars were fixed, cut, duct taped and manhandled back into drivable condition. "It was hard to make anything happen with all the yellow flags" said JC, and added,"I hope the next race isn't so bad!"

A flat tire on lap 17 put JC down 2 laps on the field. Car Owner, Jim Beattie was heard saying that he was not happy. But nothing could dampen JC's serpentine determination, as he charged through the field. Then, as JC dropped the hammer, a piece of debris hit the car and blew a hole in the radiator hose! This was followed by a series of bleeps on the radio. Lady luck was seen flying out of the car, as JC pulled into the pits for more service.

JC and the #09 ATI Performance Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo finished 14th out of a field which began with 35 cars taking the green flag, and saw just 18 pass under the checkered flag. JC had his crew to thank for all their hard work through the race, insuring that he was still around at the finish.

Don't forget to wake up early on Saturday and listen for JC on The Checkered Flag between 9 am and 11 am on WNST 1570 AM. The ATI Performance Racing Team will hit the track next on June 2nd at 9 pm in Nashville, Tennessee. Don't miss the action on TNN Sports. Check back at www.jcbeattie.com and www.asaracing.com for more info on JC and the rest of the ASA.
