HANDLING WOES HURT ATI PERFORMANCE RACING IN NASHVILLE
June 11, 2001 - Nashville, TN

After a third-place finish in the qualifying race of the ASA AC Delco Series Luxaire 300, J.C. Beattie, Jr. and the #09 ATI Performance Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo team had high expectations for the main event, held June 2, 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee. Beattie, Jr. started the race in 25th position, but was confident he could quickly move up, after the strong showing in the qualifier.

"We had a real good car," said Beattie, Jr. "I thought the #09 ATI Performance Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo had a chance for a great finish." Beattie, Jr. was working his way up through the field and running as high as 18th place, but then bad luck struck on Lap 149. The #83 car, driven by Joey Clanton, the #00 car of Scott Fraser, and Beattie's #09 were all involved in an accident. The ATI Performance Racing team worked hard to keep Beattie's chances alive, but the #09 Chevrolet Monte Carlo's handling was never the same. Beattie, Jr. completed 212 of the 300 laps and finished in 27th place.

Rookie Johnny Sauter won the race by 1.299 seconds over another rookie, Mike Cope. The win was Sauter's second straight and third in the last four races. The race saw 15 lead changes among eight drivers. Just 10 cars finished on the lead lap. There were seven cautions during the race for 45 laps.

The next stop in the ASA AC Delco Series is the I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri, June 16. The race will be televised live on TNN at 9 PM.
