ATI RACING SHOWS DETERMINATION IN SHOW-ME STATE
June 18, 2001 - Odessa, MO

Round nine of the ASA AC Delco Series found the ATI Performance Products racing team at the I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri, this past Saturday. A fourteenth-place finish in the ASA Racing.com 300 was accomplished by a lot of hard work and determination.

J.C. Beattie, Jr. and the #09 ATI Performance Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo ran into more bad luck in the Show-Me state. The weekend started off with an accident in the qualifying race, which destroyed the #09 car. As a result of the misfortune in the qualifier, Beattie, Jr. was forced to start from the back of the field for the ASA Racing.com 300.

Despite the troubles in qualifying, J.C. remained optimistic. "The ATI Performance Products team worked extremely hard to get the #09 Chevrolet Monte Carlo ready for the race. We still have a really good car and I'm just going to try to work my way up through the field," Beattie, Jr. said.

When the green flag flew at the I-70 Speedway, Beattie, Jr. began his charge up through the field. "I knew we had a good car," Beattie, Jr. commented, "I was just trying to be patient and pick up as many spots as I could."

With about a quarter of the laps completed, Beattie, Jr. had moved up to 24th position. By the halfway point, he had gained another four spots to move into 20th. When a brief rain shower caused a caution late in the race, the #09 had improved to 18th position.

After the skies cleared, the track turned stormy. With less than 20 laps remaining, several cars spun just in front of Beattie's #09. The ATI Performance Products Chevrolet Monte Carlo could not avoid the pile-up and suffered damage. The #09 car even went airborne briefly. Beattie, Jr. was not injured, luckily, and went on to finish the race, even gaining four more positions to finish 14th.

Rookie Johnny Sauter held off local favorite Rick Beebe to win his fourth race of the season. The race saw four lead changes among five drivers. Eleven cars finished on the lead lap. There were 11 cautions during the race for 96 laps, nearly one third of the race. The next stop in the ASA AC Delco Series is the Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio, July 1. The race will be televised live on TNN at 1 PM.

Fans in the Baltimore area can listen for J.C. Beattie, Jr. on The Checkered Flag, a radio program covering NASCAR, CART, IRL, and Maryland racing. The Checkered Flag can be heard on WNST 1570 AM, Saturdays between 9 and 11 AM.
