TOUGH DAY FOR JC AT I-70 June 25, 2002 - Baltimore, MD Under the
lights on Saturday night, June 22, 2002 the ASA boys were ready to fight
it out on the high banks of I-70 Speedway in Odessa, MO for the Missouri
300 presented by Jani-King and Price Chopper.Things were beginning to turn around for JC Beattie Jr and the ATI Performance Racing Team, after three straight weeks of misfortune. A solid run at Elko Speedway on June 15th had reset the table for JC to make a surge in the 2002 points battle. Beattie was also happy to return to the familiar I-70 Speedway where he hustled the ATI #09 to a 14th place finish in 2001. The field had just taken the green flag for the Missouri 300 when on lap 16 JC took a hard shot in the rear that sent the #09 head on into the outside retaining wall coming off of turn 2. The force of the contact lifted all four wheels of the Chevy Monte Carlo off of the ground as it ricocheted off of the wall and trickled to a stop at the bottom of the backstretch. JC and the ATI Team were furious with the recklessness and impatience of their fellow competitors. "16 laps into the race and look at that car," said Beattie in a TNN interview. "That car is wrecked because of impatience." Fortunately the Simpson restraining belts and HANS device worn by JC kept him free of any serious injury. However, he did suffer minor injuries and has been advised to sit out this week's race at La Crosse Fairgrounds to recuperate. ATI Performance Racing will be back in action on July 14th at Jennerstown Speedway for the Pennsylvania 300 presented by Jani-King. Joey Clanton passed Butch Miller on lap 289 for the lead and held off Rookie David Stremme for the second straight week in route to his 7th victory of the season. BACK |
